A historic church that's been abandoned for nearly 20 years might become a home for a new craft brewery in Jacksonville, according to the Jax Daily Record

Bedopas LLC released renderings of the rehabilitation project for the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church that's located in Jacksonville's Brooklyn neighborhood.

The Jax Daily Record said the church was founded in the 1950s but was later uninhabited after its congregation left the facility in 1999.

The company has plans to restore what it calls "The Dora Block," which consists of the rehabilitation of the corridor between Spruce and Chelsea streets.

The church will be converted into a 5,600 square foot brewery with the intention of keeping the building's original character and structure.

In addition to the brewery's construction, the renderings reveal a proposed 5,000 square foot restaurant to be constructed on the same block.

The company said the restaurant will help promote activity on the corner and throughout the block.

Renderings show space for a 150-seat beer garden and on-site beer production.
