The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Wednesday the city of Deltona is investigating whether or not three people violated a city cruelty to animals ordinance. No one has been charged.
Deltona spokesman Lee Lopez said that after a monthlong investigation into complaints of sick pedigree dogs being sold, animal control officers on Monday confiscated 33 adult dogs and eight puppies from two locations.
Lopez told the newspaper that one resident was breeding and selling sick Yorkshire terriers, Pomeranians and Yorkie-Pom mixes both domestically and internationally. He said some of the puppies were sold for $1,000 each.
The dogs were all taken to Halifax Humane Society in Daytona Beach to be examined for health issues.
